Rayagada: Thousands of contractual labourers of JK Paper Mill in Jaykaypur in Rayagada District have launched a sit-in strike on 24 August 2018 to protest against the company authority.
Over 4,000 contractual labourers have joined the protest. They are protesting under the banner of JK Paper Mill Employees Union and Contractual Worker’s Union. The agitating workers have closed all the nine gates of the plant and have stopped the work of mist chamber of the mill.
The workers are demanding pay hike and regularization of their job apart from 12 other demands. The workers have joined the agitation after the failure of the talk between the labour leader and plant authority at Rayagada Sub-Collector office on 23 August.
The production of the mill has been badly affected by the agitation. The district authority have deployed 5 platoon police force in the mill premises to tackle any situation.
