BJP pre-planned Ram Navami clashes, party goons roughed up police: West Bengal CM Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee charged the violence during Ram Navami celebrations in the state were pre-planned by the Bharatiya Janata Party. She also alleged a senior police official of Murshidabad was transferred a day before Ram Navami.

Campaigning for Lok Sabha polls at Raiganj constituency, the chief minister charged the violence in Murshidabad district was “pre-planned”. “Everything was pre-planned. The DIG of Murshidabad was removed a day ahead of Ram Navami so that you (the BJP) can carry out violence,” she said.

The chief minister also claimed that goons associated with the BJP roughed up police personnel in the district.

Earlier in the day, Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari wrote to West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Thursday, urging him to intervene and visit places where riots occurred during Ram Navami celebrations in the state.

Adhikari alleged, “The Ram Navami Processions were disrupted and attacked at various places across the State of West Bengal, due to the CM’s provocative speech which successfully incited miscreants, who were assured that the Law enforcement Agency won’t act against them as their hands have been tied due to CM’s public stance on Ram Navami; a day, which according to her, ‘Is a day for rioting’.”
