Napier ODI: India beat New Zealand by 8 wickets

Napier: Shikhar Dhawan completed his 5,000 ODI runs as India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the first ODI of the five-match series in Napier.

Dhawan (75*) helped India to clinch their first win against the host.

India were 41 without any loss in nine overs at dinner-break and after the play resumed, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan came out on a good pitch.

Kohli also went past Brian Lara to storm into the top 10 of the leading run scorers in one-day internationals.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets while Mohammed Shami took three wickets as India wrapped up New Zealand for 157 runs in 38 overs.

This apart, Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets while Kedar Jadhav had one wicket.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson top-scored with 64 runs but the hosts failed to put up an impressive show after opting to bat in the series
