Mother’s Day: Women Empowerment Initiative “Swayamsidha” Launched In Berhampur

Berhampur: In a bid to empower women and provide them security, Berhampur police launched a special women friendly mobile unit on the occasion of Mother’s Day here on Sunday. Women and Child Development minister Prafulla Samal inaugurating the mobile unit under ‘Swayamsidha’ programme.

The special mobile unit is comprised of police personnel and representatives from NGOs, who will visit houses and make women aware about their legal rights.

“The noble initiative will not only empower women, but also give them an opportunity to access their rights and inculcate a sense of legal awareness among them,” said Samal while speaking on the occasion.

According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra, under the programme, a special mobile van named as ‘Surakhya Rath’ will be launched. The van will visit all the panchayats and wards to receive the grievances of women and take up the same for investigation on a priority basis in order to deliver an early justice.

Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro, Berhampur MP Sidhanta Mohapatra, local MLAs Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik and Pradeep Panigrahi, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Mayor K Madhavi and other dignitaries were present during the launching of Swayamsidha.
