3 Held In Rourkela For Running IPL Betting Racket

Rourkela: Police on Saturday arrested at least three persons after conducting a raid on a house located in the Steel City where a betting on the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL) matches was being held. Cops also seized cash, mobile phones, laptops and notebooks in large numbers from the spot.

The arrested bookies have been identified as Musad Alam, Md. Parvez and Uttam Shah.

The raid was conducted after Rourkela Police got a tip-off on the betting racket last night. A special team of Plant Site Police which took part in the raid after a direction from the Rourkela SP, detained at least seven persons in a house in Narla Road area.

The police team also seized Rs 9.04 lakh in cash along with 33 mobile phones, three LED TV sets, one laptop and two calculators from the possession of the accused.

Police later released four of the accused including Shoaib Akhtar, Raza and Abdullah after questioning.

Following the raid Panaposh SDPO Padmini Sahu informed, more raids would be conducted in the Steel City in coming days to keep IPL betters at bay.
