Odisha Govt to Distribute Free LED Bulbs to NFSA Beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government announced that it would provide free LED bulbs to the beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (NFSA) from October through PDS outlets and fair price shops.

Under the recently approved scheme ‘Ama Ghare LED Light Karyakram’, around four crore LED bulbs will be distributed by the government to beneficiary families free of cost. Each bulb will have a warranty period of three years.

The NFSA beneficiaries will get the bulbs at PDS outlets and fair price shops on the dates specified for ration distribution, an official said.

The Odisha Government has approved the scheme in its annual budget for 2018-19 fiscal to provide two LED bulbs to each family free of cost. Initially, it was decided to supply four LED bulbs. The government has set aside Rs. 125 core for the scheme.

Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) will implement the scheme, which aims at lighting up the homes of poor families who are unable to buy energy efficient LED bulbs.
