Odisha CM launches Ama Ghare LED scheme

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched Ama Ghare LED scheme to provide LED bulbs to the people at free of cost.

Under the scheme, four numbers of 9 Watt LED bulbs will be distributed to each beneficiary registered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) free of cost.

Around 95 lakhs of such households will be benefited under this scheme.

“Through this scheme, each family of 95 lakh NFSA and SFSS beneficiaries will be provided with four LED bulbs free of cost,” said Energy secretary Hemant Sharma.

“This bulb is of high quality. Its market price is now over Rs 300 crore. By using this, the electricity bill will be less,” he added.

Due to non-availability of quality LED Bulbs at reasonable price in rural markets of Odisha, consumers are using incandescent/ CFL bulbs for which they are paying higher electricity bills. Rather, the energy demand of the state is increasing by such high energy consumption, said a release.

Considering the above scenario, the Department of Energy has come up with this scheme, it added.

OFTCL being the nodal organization will be implementing this scheme, the LED bulbs will be distributed at PDS outlets as well as in PEETHA camp.

The beneficiaries may collect the bulbs by giving their biometric authentication at PDS outlets and PEETHA camp.
