Odisha among Top Three States in Implementation of AMRUT Scheme for Third Time

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is among the top three states in the implementation of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme in the State, official sources said.

The BJD-ruled state has occupied the second place in the country in the implementation of AMRUT scheme for the third time in a row. It has been revealed at the Steering Committee Meeting held today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary A P Padhi at the State Secretariat here to review the implementation of the scheme.

Odisha remained in the top three ranking in terms of implementation of the scheme for years – 2015-16, 2016-17 ଓ 2017-18, informed an official. The State has secured the second position for 2017-18. Andhra Pradesh (first) and Madhya Pradesh (third) are the other best performing states.

The AMRUT scheme was launched on 25 June, 2015 to ensure that every household has access to a tap with assured supply of water and a sewerage connection, increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces and reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport.

The scheme has so far been implemented in 9 towns of the state. As of now 191 projects have been approved and taken up under the AMRUT scheme. This includes 130 water supply, 13 septage and 48 park projects. All these projects have been tendered out and tender awards have been issued for 188 projects. So far 53 projects have been completed, the official said.

The scheme is being financed by both the central and state governments on 50:50 sharing.
