Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has hailed Sanju Samson’s performance in the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17, 2023. Samson hit three successive sixes off Rashid Khan’s bowling, which Sangakkara described as a “game-changer”.
The Rajasthan Royals were chasing a target of 181 runs set by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Samson, who opened the innings, scored a blistering 82 off 44 balls, which included four boundaries and seven sixes. His performance helped Rajasthan Royals win the match by seven wickets.
Sangakkara, who is the Director of Cricket Operations for Rajasthan Royals, said that Samson’s performance was exceptional and that his three successive sixes off Rashid Khan was the turning point in the match.
Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan spinner, is known for his accuracy and his ability to pick up wickets. However, Samson’s attacking play seemed to unsettle him, and he ended up conceding 45 runs in his four overs.
Sangakkara also praised the performance of the other Rajasthan Royals batsmen, who played a supporting role to Samson. He said that the team was focused on playing aggressive cricket and that the win was a result of their positive attitude.
The victory was important for Rajasthan Royals, as they had lost their previous two matches and were in danger of falling behind in the points table. The win has given them some much-needed momentum, and they will be looking to build on it in their upcoming matches.
Samson, who has been in excellent form in the IPL, is likely to be a key player for Rajasthan Royals in the remainder of the tournament. He has already scored two half-centuries and a century in the tournament so far and is among the top run-scorers.
