India defended a low-scoring total of 133/8 against New Zealand and won by four runs in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match on Thursday.
With the win, India became the first team to enter the semifinal stage of the tournament.
New Zealand, who won the toss, put India to bat first. After a solid start, however, India squandered the chances of posting an impressive score and settled for 133.
Shafali Verma, who was adjudged the player of the match, top-scored for India with 46, with Taniya Bhatia and Radha Yadav contributing to the sub-par total.
The Kiwis were off to a good start as well, but Indian bowlers stepped up and led India to a narrow win.
