Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday filed his nomination to contest the assembly elections from the Gorakhpur Urban constituency.
While Yogi Adityanath has been a five-time MP from Gorakhpur, this is his maiden poll fight in an assembly election. Yogi Adityanath was accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the district collectorate as he submitted his nomination papers, highlighting the importance the BJP gave to the chief minister’s maiden assembly election campaign.
After filing his nomination, Adityanath and Shah went to offer prayers at the Gorakhnath temple.
Before he filed his nomination, Yogi Adityanath and Shah were present at a rally in Gorakhpur, where the home minister praised the BJP government’s performance in the state.
Shah said Adityanath had freed Uttar Pradesh of mafias by establishing the rule of law in the true sense after 25 years. Shah also praised Adityanath for his handling of the Covid pandemic.
He was quoted by NDTV as saying, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a provision for free Covid vaccines for the people, and I am happy to inform you that the state that has carried out the maximum number of vaccinations is none other than your own Uttar Pradesh. Under Yogi ji’s leadership, UP has battled Covid most effectively.”
