The Shiv Sena, on Friday, felicitated a few of its workers who had allegedly beat up a BJP corporator in Ulhasnagar town of Thane in Maharashtra recently.
According to media reports, the Sena workers who were involved in the alleged assault said they are proud of what they did and would not apologise for it.
A group of 12 Sena workers had allegedly beat up corporator Pradeep Ramchandani of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday. They had also thrown ink on the victim and shouted “kill him”, while some others tried to strangle him, a police official had said, quoting a police complaint filed against the Sena workers.
Timesnownews reported that the Sena workers said they would attack Ramchandani again if he criticises party chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
A video of the corporator being beaten up had gone viral on social media.
The incident was the fallout of the arrest of Union minister Narayan Rane. The BJP leader was arrested on Tuesday over his controversial remarks against Uddhav Thackeray, which triggered a political row and protests.
Rane had said that he would have slapped Thackeray over the latter’s ignorance of the year of India’s Independence.
