The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 1,886 and the number of cases climbed to 56,342 in the country on Friday, registering an increase of 103 deaths and 3,390 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 37,916.

While 16,539 people have recovered, one patient has migrated, it said.

“Thus, around 29. 35 per cent patients have recovered so far,” a senior health ministry official said. The total number of cases includes 111 foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, the first two Air India Express flights carrying Indian citizens from Abu Dhabi landed at Kochi on Thursday night as India launched its biggest ever repatriation exercise in its history to bring back its nationals stranded abroad amid the international travel lockdown over the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, there was an unfortunate mishap in Maharashtra where fourteen migrant workers were killed after coming under a goods train in Aurangabad district in the early hours of Friday.
