Man posing as IPS officer dupes woman of Rs 1 lakh, held

The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly posing as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and duping a woman by promising her a job with the Delhi Police. Raj Malhotra, 29, a resident of Kirari, was arrested on the woman’s complaint, the police said.

“The complainant said that the accused had taken Rs 1 lakh from her on the pretext of getting her a job,” deputy commissioner of police (DCP), SD Mishra, said.

The police added that Malhotra had met the woman at a gym, where he introduced himself as an IPS officer. Malhotra also reportedly told the woman that he was suffering from cancer.

“He told the woman that he would have married her had he not been a cancer patient. He said he would secure her future by getting her a government job,” Mishra said.

“He also concocted a false story around his family saying that his mother was a teacher; father a government officer and brother a sub-inspector,” Mishra said.

According to the police, Malhotra also visited a showroom where the woman worked, wearing a police uniform and threatened to get her showroom sealed when she started avoiding him. She later filed a complaint in the Aman Vihar police station after getting suspicious about him.

Malhotra had also been arrested in 2013 in another cheating case, wherein he had posed as a sub-inspector.

The police said they had also recovered a fake identity card of a sub-inspector from him at that time.
