Justice Fathima Beevi, the first woman Supreme Court judge and former Governor of Tamil Nadu, died on Thursday in a private hospital in Chennai, according to official sources. She was 96 years old.

According to Live Law, Beevi was the first Muslim woman judge to be nominated to any higher judiciary and the first woman judge of an Asian nation’s Supreme Court.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George expressed her condolences, stating that Justice Beevi’s death was “extremely painful.”
