3 killed, 10 injured in a blast at Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar

Three people were killed and 10 injured in a blast at Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar on Sunday morning.

The blast occurred at a congregation of the Nirankari, a spiritual organisation, in Adliwal village of Amritsar, said deputy commissioner, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, adding that three people were killed and 10 injured.

IG border range Surinderpal Singh Parmar confirmed the number of victims.

The injured have been admitted in Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and Ivy Hospital in Amritsar, police said, adding that they are investigating the blast.

According to eyewitnesses, the Nirankari followers were sitting in the congregation when two-bike borne men with their faces covered entered the premises and threw a grenade at them.

Rajesh, who was the part of the congregation, said the two attackers also had an assault rifle and entered the Nirankari Dera on gunpoint.

Punjab Congress president, Sunil Jakhar expressed condolences to the families of those who died. “My condolences are with families of those who lost lives in this incident. It is an attempt to disturb peace in Punjab. I believe all the security agencies should stay alert and coordinate with each other to maintain peace,” he said.
