The Golden Globes 2021 have been declared, kickstarting the season of Hollywood awards this year. The 78th Golden Globes, in its first-ever virtual and bi-coastal format in the wake of the pandemic, was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Fey joined in from the Rockefeller Centre’s Rainbow Room in New York City, while Poehler hosted from the Globes’ usual location inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Nominees zoomed in from around the world.
Netflix’s The Crown took home the Golden Globe for best TV drama, in addition to giving leads Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor, who play Princess Diana and Prince Charles, their first Globes. Schitt’s Creek was named best TV comedy and earned star Catherine O’Hara a victory as well.
Chadwick Boseman was posthumously honoured with a Golden Golden for his performance as the strong-willed trumpet player Levee who marches to his own beat in the musical period drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, the actor’s swansong.
Boseman, who died in August at the age of 43 following a four year-long private battle with colon cancer, won the award in the best performance by an actor in a motion picture category.
