Shimla: Bollywood Actor Asif Basra was found dead at a private guest house in Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala on Thursday. The 53-year-old actor was found hanging at the complex.
A forensic team has reached the spot to examine the cause of the death, the police said, adding an investigation into the matter has been initiated to find out whether it was death by suicide.
“Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. The forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter,” SSP Kangra, Vimukt Ranjan was quoted as saying by ANI.
As per a preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that Basra was suffering from depression.
The actor was best known for his critically acclaimed roles in Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania. He had also appeared in several other Bollywood movies including, Abhishek Kapoor-directed Kai Po Che, Jab We Met, Hichki, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain among others.
He was recently seen in the popular thriller web series Paatal Lok.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”
Born in Maharashtra’s Amravati in 1967, Basra had moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue his acting career.
