Minor Girl Kidnapped, Villagers Gherao Police Station

Nuapada: Hundreds of locals gheraoed Khariar Police Station in the district last night protesting police’s inaction in tracing a minor girl who had been kidnapped from the Dhobapada area in Khariar Town two days ago.

The striking locals led by the family members of the victim girl reached the Khariar Police Station and resorted to sloganeering demanding immediate action on the suspects in the case. Later they held protests in front of the entrance of the police station and sought answer from the IIC on the inordinate delay in arrest of the culprits in the case as well as rescue of the victim.

As per a complaint filed by the missing girl’s brother with police, the accused duo Deb Kumar Karan of Gandhi Nagar area and Raj Kumar of Bijepur village kidanapped the victim from her Dhobapada residence on April 20. The kidnap took place while the victim’s family was busy in her elder sister’s marriage.

On the other hand, Kharirar Police Station Women’s Desk IIC Pushpanjali Pradhan has ruled out any delay on the part of the police in the case. The probe is moving in the right direction and the culprits would be arrested soon, she maintained.
