Paralakhemundi: In yet another incident of sexual assault on minor girls in the state, police arrested a man for allegedly raping his minor niece in Ghorani village under Gurandi police limits in Gajapati district on Friday.
The accused uncle has been identified as Kusha Raul.
Informing on the arrest at a press conference here, Paralakhemundi SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra said, the victim’s parents work as migrant labourers in Chennai and she lives with her sister and grandmother in the village. The accused broke into her house by removing the window grills in the night on February 21 this year and sexually assaulted her. He left the spot after issuing a note of warning to the victim to not disclose the matter to anybody.
However, the victim’s family lodged a case with police on March 2, after she mustered courage and cited her ordeal before them.
Acting upon the complaint, Gurandi Police succeeded in arresting the accused who had fled to Hyderabad of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh State following the incident.
The accused uncle has been forwarded to court.
