Huge Explosives Seized In Koraput

Koraput: A huge cache of explosives was seized from separate crusher units in Borigumma area of Koraput district. Police have arrested three persons in connection with the seizure.

Acting on a tipoff, police conducted raids in Jayantgiri and Jamunda areas in Jeypore yesterday night and arrested three persons for running illegal stone crusher units in the district, informed sources.

Based on the information elicited from the arrested persons, police raided other crusher units and recovered 26 packets of electronic detonators, three bundles of cordon wire, 38 bundles of safety fuse, 422 pieces of non- electronic detonators and two bags of ammonium nitrate.
Meanwhile, the cops are also suspecting involvement of more persons in the operation of such illegal crusher units.

However, police have ruled out Maoist link behind such stash of explosives.

“Prima facie no Naxalite involvement has been established yet, but investigation is on,” IIC of Borigumma PS, Sagarika Nath said.

It may be noted that a seven-member team has been formed under the supervision of the district SP to investigate into illegal stone crushing activities in Koraput.
