BJP takes a dig at Robert Vadra’s Intention of ‘larger role’.

In the midst of summons from the Enforcement Directorate, Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and a businessman, on Sunday said he might play “a larger role in serving the people once his ongoing cases are over.”

His Facebook post sparked speculation whether this was a hint of his willingness to join politics. The Congress played it down by pointing out that he has always been involved in social work through NGOs. “Will he need Modiji’s [Prime Minister Narendra Modi] permission to do work related to people? Don’t think he needs permission from the Emperor,” said Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera

Mr. Vadra said he spent years and months campaigning and working in different parts of the country, mainly in Uttar Pradesh, and that “gave him a feeling to do more for the people.”

“All these years of experience and learning cannot be just wasted and should be put to better use… Once all these accusations and allegations are over, I feel I should dedicate a larger role in serving the people,” said Mr. Vadra in his post.

Taking a dig at Mr. Vadra, the official handle of the BJP tweeted, “Presenting Congress’ Prime Ministerial candidate for Lok Sabha elections.”

The BJP has often targeted Mr. Vadra over allegations of corruption, especially when the UPA was in power at the Centre. But he has called it political vendetta. “More than a decade of different governments trying to malign me, using and highlighting my name to divert real issues of the country,” he wrote in his post.
