Bad days are over, ready for new beginning: Prateik Babbar

Actor Prateik Babbar is upbeat about people’s response to the recently launched trailer of his upcoming film, Mulk – it has already crossed 10 million views in four days.

The Dhobi Ghaat actor says, “It’s overwhelming. I have worked really hard after going through a rough patch and getting into all wrong circumstances. Now, I want to tell the world that I’m back with some good films and roles.”

Prateik, son of late actor Smita Patil and actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, started his acting career with a small but noticeable role in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008. It was followed by films like Dhobi Ghaat, Dum Maaro Dum, Ekk Deewana Tha and Issaq.

The actor, who came out in the open about substance abuse in April last year and has maintained his distance from it since then, believes he is more confident and his perspective towards life has changed after the sabbatical and struggle.

“There was a lot of time to introspect and it was then I decided to start afresh and become a good actor and a good human being. I’m lucky I didn’t have to wait long for work as Tum Bin famed film maker Anubhav Sinha came up with some beautiful scripts. First it was Mulk that is all set for August release followed by Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai…,” he says.

On being asked that does his acting skills are all genetic, he says, “I know both my parents were great actors and have done great body of work but I feel more than genes it’s how seriously you love your work and how passionate you are towards it that makes you a better actor. Though I don’t’ deny the gene theory as somewhere it’s because of them what I’m today. I still turn to my father for suggestions as he has been a successful person in his life.”

Talking about his character in the next release, he says, “When I heard the script and got to know I was set to play a character of terrorist, who is caught in wrong situations, for a moment I felt boy! This is going to be tough but once I started shooting I just played the role honestly and gave my hundred percent. It did exhaust me but when Anubhav (read Anubhav Sinha) came up to me and praised my work, I felt so relaxed and refreshed that finally I have given the role what it required from me as an actor.”

Both his upcoming films Mulk and Abhi Toh Party… have been extensively shot in Lucknow and this was the first time that the actor came to the city of Nawabs, that now also happens to be his would be in-laws’ house.

“This city is all about royalty and architecture. I really loved the place when I visited it for the first time to shoot here. And then my fiancée is from here so that makes Lucknow all the more special for me,” he says.

Prateik is also working on a romcom tentatively titled Yaraam and a Mahesh Manjrekar’s untitled along with actor Vidhyut Jammwal.

“It feels great to be working with right people on right time. The scripts are great and the people I’m associated with all are equally great. So it’s a win win situation for me. And I’m enjoying the phase to the hilt as people will get to see a new Prateik.”
