Trade unions strike affects normal life in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was affected in many places in Odisha following the two-day nationwide strike called by various trade unions on Tuesday.

The trade unions are protesting against the “anti-labour” policies of central government.

While buses, autorickshaws and other public transport services remained off the road at several places, trade unions staged rail blockade at railway stations in the state.

Besides, business establishments, educational institutions and banks remained closed on Tuesday. The state government had announced for closure of educational institutions in the state on Tuesday.

The strike is being supported by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA)and Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) among others.

Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress also extended their support to the nationwide strike.
