Nationwide strike hits normalcy across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was affected across the State following the two-day nationwide strike called by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) from today.

Educational institutions across the state remained closed in view of the protest.

According to reports, train services and other vehicular communication have also been affected at major cities in Odisha as agitators staged rail roko at several railway stations and road blockades at various places.

The trade union members staged a protest in Jaleswar railway station and halted Guwahati-Thiruvananthpuram Express and Khurdha-Kharagpur passenger train. Meanwhile, Puri-Ahmedabad Express was halted by agitators in Berhampur and six railway siding units were also shut down by trade union employees in Bonai.
Commuters and passengers faced a harrowing time as vehicles remained off the road due to the bandh.

JEE Main examination candidates including several thousand students in Odisha also were also affected due to the strike.

Reportedly, the Biju Janata Dal and Congress have extended their support to the bandh in Odisha.

Public sector employees, unorganised sector workers, port &dock workers, bank & insurance employees also participated in the protest march against growing economic crisis, price rise, and acute unemployment.
