Free and Responsible Journalism Essential for Democracy: CM Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that free and responsible journalism is essential for vibrant democracy.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came on the occasion of the National Press Day today.

Extending greetings to the journalists on the occasion, Naveen urged them to make the fourth pillar free, fair and independent to speak the truth for a stronger democracy.

National Press Day is celebrated on November 16 to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India. Set up in 1966, the Council keeps a check on the quality of reportage provided by the Indian press.

It also ensures that journalistic objectivity is not compromised due to influence or threats of any extraneous factors.
