Raghunath Mohanty Back In BJD

Bhubaneswar: Former minister and senior BJD leader Raghunath Mohanty who was removed from the post of vice-president after getting arrested in connection with the much-hyped dowry torture case filed by his daughter- in-law Barsha Swony Choudhury, was reappointed today.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reappointed Mohanty as the party vice-president and Dhenkanal district observer, a press statement released by the party revealed.

arlier in 2017, Mohanty had informed about coming back to BJD fold after meeting party supremo Naveen Patnaik.

Mohanty who won as Janata Dal candidate in 1990 and 1995 had also successfully contested elections from Basta Assembly constituency as BJD candidate in 2000, 2004 and 2009 elections. He held several portfolios including the Law department.

However he was denied party ticket during the 2014 Assembly elections after the alleged dowry torture case.
