Cuttack: A Ghanaian national was arrested by police from Angul Railway Station for duping a doctor in Cuttack of Rs 18.5 lakh. Police have recovered the money and seized accused’s passport .
The accused has been identified as Nicholas Kujoe, a Ghanaian National. he was in contact with pediatrician Mangal Charan Murmu of Cuttack. The accused allegedly concocted to provide medical equipments worth Rs 18.5 lakh to the doctor.
The doctor reportedly paid Rs 5 lakh to the accused during their initial meeting in Cuttack and later on December 31, he paid the balance amount, sources said.
However, the accused vanished after receiving the money from the doctor. Unable to contact him on the phone, the doctor filed a police complaint, sources added. Acting swiftly , the police raided various hotels and nabbed the accused from Angul Railway Station.
Harihar Pani, SDPO, Angul said “We have arrested the accused and seized Rs 18.5 lakh from him along with his passport. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the doctor and the accused is being transferred to Cuttack Lalbagh Police Station.”
