Odisha Police to Step up Anti-Maoist Operations: DGP

Malkangiri: Odisha Police will step up its anti-Maoist operations in the left-wing extremism (LWE) districts of the State, said Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma here today.

The DGP, who visited Malkangiri after his department’s massive success in the Monday gunfight against the red rebels in the district, said that the security environment in the LWE areas have been improved considerably due to increase in the presence of BSF and SOG in the past one year.

He further said that the developmental activities in the Maoist-affected districts will be taken up very soon.

Highly appreciating the security forces for their success in the Monday anti-Maoist, the senior police official said that the operation was a clinically executed operation because it was carried out in a hamlet which has local habitation.

The security forces ensured that no villagers were hurt in the operation, Sharma told media persons after chairing a high-level review meeting at the district police headquarters here.

ADG (Operation) RP Koche, Addl. Director (Intelligence) R K Sharma, SIW IG Ghanshyam Upadhyay, SOG Commandant Anirudh Singh and Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena were present in the meeting.

Odisha Police’s Special Operation Group killed five rebels, who were part of Kalimela LOS, a banned organisation.
