Mamata Banerjee to consult Odisha CM on ending dharna

Bhubaneswar: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she will consult with her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik to decide whether to continue the dharna or not.

Asked whether she would continue “save the constitution” dharna, Mamata said, “I will seek the support of Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik. I am sure he’ll stand by me.”

“Let me talk to my leaders. I am not alone in this fight. many senior leaders cutting across party lines are with me. Will decide whether to continue dharna or not after having discussions with all,” she added.
She further informed that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was coming to Kolkata to meet her today and said she would let the media know about the decision.

The statement of the West Bengal CM came soon after the Supreme Court ruled that no coercive steps would be taken against Police Commissioner of Kolkata Rajeev Kumar.

Soon after the apex court order, Mamata said, “It’s a moral victory. We have great respect for the judiciary and all institutions. We are so grateful. We’re so obliged.”

Notably, the West Bengal Chief Minister is on a ‘save the constitution’ dharna since Sunday night, after CBI officers turned up at the Kolkata Police chief’s residence to question him in connection with the Saradha scam probe.
