Delhi cop’s son thrashes woman; arrested

The son of a Delhi policeman has been arrested after he was seen slapping and kicking a woman and knocking her to the ground in a disturbing video. The arrest was reported soon after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that he had ordered action.

On the video that was widely shared, the man, identified as Rohit Tomar, the son of a sub-inspector Ashok Singh Tomar, is seen telling the woman, “Don’t take his name again,” as he hits her. The blows keep coming, on the woman’s stomach, back and head, and he also pulls her hair.

“I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard,” Rajnath Singh tweeted on Friday.

The police said the video appeared to have been shot by a friend of Tomar at a private office in West Delhi. It was released by a woman, not the person seen in the video, who is said to have been close once to Rohit Tomar, they said, adding that she had complained to the police alleging that they had broken up, but he continued to harass her.
The woman also alleged that she had approached Tomar’s father hoping that the police officer would reason with his son, but the father too threatened her.

The police said they had detained Rohit Tomar, and later released him on a personal bond.

When Tomar allegedly threatened her again, the woman again approached the police. She said she shared on social media, the video of Tomar beating another woman, which he sent to her as a warning.

The woman seen targeted in the video was traced and convinced to file a case against him, the police said.
