Catriona Gray, a 24-year-old from the Philippines, took home the Miss Universe 2018 crown on Sunday.
Beyond competing in pageants, Gray is also a singer, one who learned about perfecting her craft with the help of Berklee College of Music in Boston.
According to Debbie Cavalier, Berklee’s senior vice president of online learning and continuing education, Gray enrolled in a certificate program through Berklee Online and studied “music theory, ear training, harmony, and other courses.”
In a Facebook post on Monday, Gray said that her mother had imagined her winning the Miss Universe crown.

“When I was 13, my mum told me ‘Honey, I dreamt of you winning Miss Universe in a red dress.’” Gray wrote. “At that time I thought nothing of it, and today my mother’s dream came true.”
A Philanthropist, humanitarian, Master in Music Theory and an adventure junkie, Catriona Elisa Gray lives up to the theme of the 67th Miss Universe pageant, “Empowered Women”.
Catriona is an HIV/AIDS advocate at Love Yourself PH and also volunteers as a teacher assistant to the students of Young Focus NGO, according to the official Miss Universe website.
Talking about the Miss Universe pageant, the 24-year-old was judged by seven people including former pageant winners, businesswomen, and a fashion designer. In the final question round, Gray was asked about the most important lesson she has learnt in life and how would she apply it in her time as Miss Universe.
She said: “I work a lot in the slums of Manila and life there is very poor and sad. I have always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look for the beauty in the faces of the children, and I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining and to asses where I could give something and provide something. And if I could also teach people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity would not brew and foster, and children would have a smile on their face.”
