Taarak Mehta’s Dr Hathi decided to live with his weight for the fear of losing work, reveals doctor

If you were shocked at the untimely death of Kavi Kumar Azad aka Dr Hathi of the popular TV serial Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, what we will tell you next will leave you dumbfounded. According to a report in spotboye.com, Kavi might have chosen to stay fat for the sake of his career. Dr Muffi Lakdawala stated that the actor refused to lose anymore weight for fear of losing out on work. To a question, Dr Lakdawala said that to his suggestion to undergo a second bariatric surgery, Kavi had told him ‘I have to remain fat, so that I continue to look fat on screen.’

Through the course of the interview Dr Lakdawala mentioned that it was eight years back that Kavi has come to him to get operated for rid of his obesity problem. He weighed 265 kg then. Kavi had collapsed on the sets and was on ventilator. Post his first bariatric surgery, his weight came down to 140 kgs. He went back on the sets and resumed his normal life.

The doctor had advised him for a second surgery to further bring down his weight to 90 kgs. However, that never happened as he never came back. When Lakdawala suggested that he could still look fat by using padding, the actor responded that he could not pad his face. The doctor had also warned him that not reducing weight would put his life at risk.

The doctor went on to elaborate that after a gap he chanced upon him again and realised that he had put on 20 kgs and weighed 160 kgs.
