Odia Jawan Martyred in Militant Attack in Manipur

Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, an Assam Rifles Jawan from Odisha was killed in militant attack in Manipur.

The Jawan identified as Champeswar Mahakud (37), a resident of Dhaurakhaman village under Rairakhol block of Sambalpur district, was martyred by armed militants during combat operation in Manipur.

The martyr was posted at Joupi in Chandel district of Manipur.

Champeswar was killed during fire exchange with the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants on Friday, reports said.

Champeswar, the youngest son of Suranchi Mahakud, had joined the Assam Rifles in 2001. He is survived by his wife Madhusmita and eight-year-old son Debjit.

The body of martyr will reach his ancestral village Dhaurakhaman today.
