Woman gets husband murdered after 4 days of wedding; shot dead by cousin: Cops


A 21-year-old newly-married woman was shot dead allegedly by her cousin in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar on Sunday after she allegdly got her husband of four days murdered over her affair with another cousin, police said.

Shivani of Haidarnagar Jalalpur village was allegedly killed after her cousin, Sumit Kumar, 35, found out that she was in an illicit relationship with another cousin of hers, Anuj, and that she along with him had killed her husband, Shailendra alias ‘Happy’, 24, the cops said.

After killing Shivani, Sumit surrendered before the police and admitted to his crime.

Shailendra of Samaspur village in Meerut had married Shivani on February 28. On March 4, Shailendra, along with his brother Manish, had come to meet Shivani in Haidarnagar Jalalpur village. On his way back to his village, he was shot dead by some unknown person near the rickshaw stand of Haidarnagar Jalalpur village while his brother Manish received injuries, the police said.

After investigation, police arrested Anuj, with whom Shivani was allegedly in a relationship.

“When Shailendra reached his in-laws’ house in Haidarnagar Jalalpur village, Shivani informed Anuj about his arrival. While Shailendra was going back to his village, Anuj shot him dead while Manish was seriously injured in the incident. Anuj was arrested, but Shivani remained at large,” SSP (Muzaffarnagar) Sudhir Kumar Singh said during a press conference on Sunday.

Upset over the deed of his cousins Shivani and Anuj, Sumit took Shivani to his agricultural field and shot her dead with a country-made pistol. After killing Shivani, Sumit arrived at Titawai police station and surrendered before the police.

“Sumit Kumar confessed to killing his sister and said he did it as she had tarnished the family’s image,” said Kshitij Kumar, SO, Titawai police station.
