MG Motor is gearing up to establish itself in the Indian market and has roped in Benedict Cumberbatch, of Doctor Strange and Sherlock Holmes fame, as its brand ambassador. The renowned British actor will be the face of the British marque in India and is seen alongside the upcoming Hector mid-size SUV in a new video.

The MG Hector, which is yet to be revealed officially, was spied completely undisguised recently. The Tata Harrier-rival SUV was spotted in the UK while shooting for a TV commercial with Cumberbatch behind the wheel.

MG’s first SUV in the country could make its debut in May. Loaded with a host of connectivity features via an embedded SIM card, the Hector is shaping up to be a premium offering in the SUV segment.

The Hector, which draws inspiration from the biplane of the same name deployed by the Royal British Army, has its roots in the Baojun 530 Chinese SUV, and will sport a near-identical design as well. This five-seat SUV is expected to be plush and along with wide range of connectivity features it will get a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery as well as a touchscreen infotainment system, with its own operating system. MG promises Tesla-like OTA updates to introduce new features on the Hector in India, making it the first carmaker to do so.

Expected to be powered by the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine along with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, the 5-seater SUV will go up against the Jeep Compass, XUV500 and the Tata Harrier in India. It is slated for a public launch in June and could be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
