Hyundai Santro AMT garners 30 percent of bookings

The Hyundai Santro is on a roll. Hyundai says the Santro hatchback has clocked over 1.29 lakh enquires already and overall bookings have crossed 30,000 units. Hyundai will be manufacturing 10,000 units of the Santro every month which means buyers may have to face a waiting period of around on2 to two months.

The AMT-equipped Santro has garnered 30 percent of bookings, exceeding the carmaker’s own projections for the automatic version of the car. The Hyundai Santro has been priced starting Rs 3.89 lakh for the base variant, ex-showroom.

The all-new Santro has been built on Hyundai’s new K1 platform with 63 per cent Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS) which helps achieve a high level of safety alongside what Hyundai calls Static and Dynamic Airbag.

Speaking of variants, the top-spec Asta trim gets full-size wheel covers as Hyundai is not providing alloy wheels on the Santro. The grille gets a chrome surround strip, body-coloured wing mirrors and door handles, turn indicators on the ORVMs, rear windscreen washer/wiper as standard, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. The screen can also be used as a display for the rear camera.

The Hyundai Santro will be available in around 9 trims. Hyundai has also put in a choice of two gearbox options which will be provided with the petrol and possible the CNG variant as well. The petrol is a 4cyl 1.1-litre Epsilon motor churning out 69bhp mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai has mentioned ARAI efficiency figures at 20.3kmpl. The petrol-manual variant will start from the base DLite variant which starts at Rs 3.7 lakh, Era, Magna, Sportz, and the top-spec Asta trim.

The CNG-powered Santro’s 1.1-litre engine churns out 59bhp and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The CNG powered Santro will be, however, available in Magna and Sportz variants only.

Hyundai is also offering a new Smart Auto AMT gearbox which will be seen the first time in the Santro. The Santro AMT trim will also be available on the Magna and Sportz trim only. The top spec Santro will not get the automatic gearbox.

In terms of safety, the Santro will get standard safety equipment like single driver side airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, EBD, and a speed alert system. Hyundai is also offering an optional second passenger airbag.

The Hyundai Santro will be available in seven exterior colours with two new shades – Imperial Beige, and Diana Green.

The Hyundai Santro base petrol-manual D-Lite variant is priced at Rs 3.89 lakh. The Era at Rs 4.24 lakh, Magna for Rs 4.57 lakh, Sportz for Rs 4.99 lakh, and the Asta trim for Rs 5.45 lakh, ex-showroom.

The petrol AMT variant is being offered in the Magna and Sportz variant only with prices at Rs 5.18 lakh, and Rs 5.48 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.

The CNG manual variant is offered in the Magna and Sportz variant. Prices are Rs 5.23 lakh, and Rs 5.64 lakh respectively. You can see the CNG Sportz variant is the most expensive of all variants.
